Tamarind Chickpea Chaat is a popular Indian street food combining cooked chickpeas with tangy tamarind sauce, fresh vegetables, and spices. It is also called Chana Chaat in India.
– Dried chickpeas – Onion – Tomato – Cucumber – Green chili – Fresh coriander leaves – Boiled potato – Tamarind pulp – Jaggery – Cumin powder – Black salt – Chili powder – Salt
– Large bowl – Saucepan – Pot or pressure cooker – Chopping board – Knife – Measuring cups/spoons – Strainer – Mixing spoon – Serving dishes
Soak dried chickpeas overnight or use canned. Cook until tender, then drain and set aside for later use.
Cook tamarind pulp and jaggery until melted. Add cumin, black salt, chili powder, and simmer until thickened.
Finely chop onion, tomato, cucumber, and optional green chili. Set aside the chopped vegetables for mixing later.
Combine cooked chickpeas with chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, and optional green chili in a large bowl. Mix well.
Drizzle the tamarind sauce over the chickpea and vegetable mixture, then toss everything together to coat evenly.
Garnish with fresh coriander, sev, and pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
